Introduction to academic standards
Academic standards are guidelines that define what students need to know and be able to do at the university level.
- Listening: Actively understanding and engaging with spoken information.
- Speaking: Clearly articulating ideas and adapting language to the audience.
- Reading: Comprehending and analysing texts critically.
- Writing: Expressing ideas clearly through structured and revised draft
Academic integrity refers to the commitment to honesty and ethical behaviour in all scholarly activities. It encompasses:
- Honesty: Submitting original work and accurately representing sources.
- Responsibility: Taking ownership of one’s actions and their consequences.
- Fairness: Ensuring equal opportunities and unbiased assessment.
- Respect: Acknowledging the contributions of others and fostering a collaborative environment.
- Trust: Building a culture where academic work is valued and credible.
Upholding academic integrity is crucial for maintaining the credibility of educational institutions and the value of degrees. It promotes a culture of learning and intellectual growth.
